Austin- based alternative hip-hop artist, Deezie Brown has already had one hell of a year, and it’s only April. Following the release of his debut album Judith last month, he went on to play at this year’s SXSW and is already gearing up for more tour dates on top of more content for fans – including even more new music!
Judith is an emotionally heavy debut release, touching on the ugly side of the music industry, finding balance between a career and family and serving as a shoulder to lean on for listeners who might be struggling to find their path in life. With the album out now, we caught up with Deezie Brown to talk about the creative process behind the debut release and his plans for the future. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself for any readers who might be hearing you for the first time?
My name is Deezie Brown I’m a Recording artist/Songwriter from Bastrop, Texas. I’ve been pursuing the music industry since I was 11 years old and for that reason I believe I was put on this earth to create.
What first inspired you to get involved with music? What inspires you to create the music that you do today?
Well one of the first records I’ve ever heard was crossroads by Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, from there on I knew that this was something that I wanted to do for the rest of my life. If there was something that inspired me it would definitely have to be my imagination and bringing those images to life.
You recently released your new album, Judith. What goals did you have in mind for this collection of songs?
Judith was basically an album about the industry and how it can brainwash you without you even knowing but still being in love with every aspect of it. The message I was trying to get across was if you love something then love everything about it regardless of any negativity it may bring learn to accept things for what they are and love for your own reasons and don’t be afraid of what others think about it. I wanted to literally paint this picture of my addictions in the most beautiful way I could.
Well mostly for any listeners that do fall into that category I want them to know that they’re not alone and hope that this album inspires & strengthens them to go out and pursue.
Did you come across any challenges when working on the album? If so how did you overcome them?
Fatherhood was the biggest challenge for me when crafting this album together. The way to overcome this and the only way to overcome it is finding that balance between Judith (The Industry) & your family which also ties into the album itself.
On the flip side, what was the most rewarding or exciting moment of working on Judith?
I think mostly the most exciting moment for me was release day and receiving the feedback from all my listeners. Also another exciting moment for me was finally being able to present the creative direction to the world as far as my vinyls and hardcopies and also my private art show.
With the album out now, do you have any plans to hit the road soon? When can fans see you live?
As of now we are scheduled to do the underground music showcase in Denver, Colorado so me and all my guys over at Auction Sound are more then excited to step on the plane.
Do you have any other big goals or plans for the rest of 2018?
I’m definitely going to do some catching up with my family and spend some time with my daughter before getting back on the road, Definitely want to find more promo tools for Judith as well as working on some visuals and short films while crafting my next album together which is already in the works.
