Music is all about writing what feels right, and Denver pop-rock band Vermillion Road are doing just that. Although they first began as a hard rock band, they’re currently charging headfirst into 2018 with a fresh new sound and their sights set on establishing themselves as a powerful blend of pop and alternative rock. With three new songs already released this year alone – their newest being the catchy as hell “Gasoline” – Vermillion Road are making sure that you know their name before their EP drops next month.
With “Gasoline” out now, their new EP out May 25th and a release show alongside Creature Canopy, Sophie Wilson and Right Before Rain planned for the same night, we caught up with Vermillion Road to chat about their new sound, new music and plans for the future. Read the entire interview and listen to “Gasoline” below.

Interview by Dom Vigil
Can you tell us a little bit about Vermillion Road for any readers who might not be familiar?
Sure! We’re a 4-piece alternative pop rock band hailing from the great city of Denver. We are passionate about songwriting and performing live! We give everything we’ve got on stage so we can deliver energetic shows to our fans!
How do you feel the music scene here in Denver has affected you as musicians? How has it shaped the kind of band you are today?
What’s unique to the Denver scene is the amount of camaraderie among the bands. There’s a ton of it here, more than the music scene of many cities we’ve visited or have heard about. It’s also super diverse from a genre perspective, and that’s to say nothing of the immense talent that defines the scene here. So especially when we were starting out, the camaraderie, diversity, and high level of musicianship, really inspired us to strive for excellence and find our own way in the scene.
What are some of your favorite things about the local music scene?
The Denver scene is filled with a wonderful community of supportive people that really care about pushing each other and making the music the best it can possibly be. It’s a kind of friendly competitiveness that has a remarkably rare sincerity to it, and we haven’t seen it in many other places outside Denver.
So far this year, you’ve released three new singles, “Only One,” “Eye On You” and most recently “Gasoline.” With these new songs emerging, is it safe to say we can expect more new music – maybe an EP or album – soon?
You bet your bottom dollar you can! We’ve got an EP coming out on May 25th with more tunes and we can’t wait to share them with you!
What goals have you had in mind for these new songs?
One of the biggest goals for us was to get our new sound right. We started out as a hard rock band, but our music’s been evolving over the past few years into a more alternative/pop sound with electronic production. We wanted to make sure that we not only made a place for ourselves within that genre but have written songs that can stand the test of time. Trying to write great catchy songs that people can connect to is what we strive for.
“Gasoline” is a four-on-the-floor driving pop song about taking big chances and going the distance, no matter how far, to be with the one you love. Our guitarist, Hunter, was inspired to write it while he was coming back from a long road trip and was missing someone special.
What would you like listeners to take away from “Gasoline” or any of your new tracks if it’s their first time hearing you?
We’d love for people to sing along and feel good vibes when they hear “Gasoline”. Most of our new music is about love, life, and relationships, and we hope it makes people feel things emotionally that they can connect to. That really is what our music is all about.
Are there any other goals you’d like to accomplish in 2018? What are you looking forward to the most this year?
Besides our goal of re-establishing ourselves as an alt pop rock band and having a successful EP, we hope to play some great shows along the way and meet some great people! We’re excited to play Rock the Quad and the Prescott Valley Music Festival in Arizona this spring, and we’ve got some plans to tour this summer – possibly with Warped Tour and a college tour in September.
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Our EP release show is at Lost Lake on Friday, May 25th and we have our friends, Creature Canopy, Sophie Wilson and Right Before Rain playing with us. We’d love to see everyone come out! It’s gonna be a blast!
