It might only be April, but Philadelphia alt-rock trio, Mo Lowda & the Humble have already had one hell of a year. On top of the release of their dynamic and powerful new album, Creatures, the band has been out on the road since early March, and they’re not showing signs of slowing down anytime soon, with tour dates planned throughout May. The self-produced 10-track album comes on the heels of Mo Lowda & the Humble playing 100 shows last year alone, and they plan on hitting that number and then some in 2018.

Interview by Dom Vigil
You guys are currently out on the road in support of your recently released album, Creatures. How have the shows been so far? What have been some highlights of the last few tour dates?
The shows have been pretty incredible for the most part. We just came off a weekend in which we sold out New York and Boston back-to-back nights and that was probably the highlight of the Creatures tour so far. We also had some pretty unbelievable shows in Chicago, Denver, and Charlotte… people jamming out relentlessly and howling along to the lyrics. It’s cool to see people starting to pick up on us around the nation.
Your new album, Creatures was released earlier this month! Now that it has been out for a little bit and you’ve had some time to reflect on it, what are some of your favorite things about the album?
I love how it flows. We’ve been playing a lot of the songs live in pairs of groupings as they appear on the album because I love the way the drop into one another. Also I dig playing the tunes live – I think they translate well… they’ve also challenged my band mates and me. There are a lot more backup vocals, layers, and loops.
I don’t think I set out to write about a certain subject each time… if it comes to me then I’ll roll with it but it’s not like I sit down and say “hey I want to touch on these eight topics on this record”. I think every day life, the news, pop culture, music, movies and all kinds of other things are constantly influencing me lyrically… it’s just a matter of when it starts to pour out. There will be months where I can’t write a single thing and then there will be one week where I bang out for full songs.
Creatures comes a few years after the release of your debut album, Curse The Weather. How do you feel you’ve grown between these two releases?
Patience. Not throwing all of your ideas out at once. We’ve learned how to let a song breathe and grow without pulling obvious moves.
What would you like listeners to take away from Creatures?
That’s a great question. At the end of the day… some sort of pleasure. That’s why we seek music and movies and art… to escape from reality and be suspended in something else for a moment. It doesn’t matter what I want the listener takes away its what they end up feeling on their own… without me or anyone else guiding them. That’s what I think is remarkable about music. Someone’s original message could get so lost somewhere along the line in the listening process but it could still have such a major impact on the listener in another way. Also- I think any good album just makes you want to run out and see it live. That’s the goal.
With Creatures out now, you guys are just starting an incredibly busy year. What are you looking forward to the most in the coming months?
We’re playing Peach Fest in Scranton, PA in July – legendary fest and crazy lineup. I’m pumped for that one.
Do you have any other big plans for the rest of 2018?
We’re gonna play another 100+ shows this year and bang out a bunch of music videos. It never stops!
