Interview by Dom Vigil
You’ve had an incredibly busy 2018 so far with a ton of new music, including your latest album, Silver Lining as well as tour dates this summer. What has been the highlight of your year so far?
The highlight of my year was putting out “Silver Lining” which I wrote and produced entirely by myself in my bedroom. It was a major accomplishment and being able to walk to record stores and buy the vinyl was also so much fun.
Now that it has been out for a few months and you’ve had some time to reflect on it a bit, what are some of your favorite things about Silver Lining?
My favorite thing about the album is the visuals actually. We took a lot of time to make the album cover and all the single covers. They all tell a story, along with the music.
When you first started working on Silver Lining, were there any major goals you had in mind? What did you want to accomplish with this release?
I just wanted to make my best album yet. I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and try things I haven’t yet tried.
How do you feel you’ve grown or evolved with the writing and release of Silver Lining?
I have become a much better producer and piano player. I sit on YouTube for hours every day and learn more and more about producing every day. It’s really fun to watch yourself grow and get better.
What was the most rewarding aspect of writing and recording the album?
The most rewarding part of releasing music is always seeing how much certain songs or lyrics touch people’s lives. I have already seen hundreds of fan tattoos from the album, of lyrics that I wrote.
What would you like listeners to take away from the album?
The whole point of the album is that there is always a silver lining with every bad thing that happens. On the album cover, there are a bunch of people holding balloons and floating away. They symbolize past relationships, ex managers, ex record labels. They symbolize past experiences and bad energy that I am done holding on to. It is important to let go of the things that hold you back and focus on the future and how to better yourself.
You also recently announced your signing to Red Music/Sony Records in July! What made this a good fit for you and your music? What are you excited to accomplish with this team behind you?
The Sony team is extremely excited about me and my music and that’s all I ever wanted. I don’t care how big the company is, as long as there are people in the building who are willing to fight for me every day. And that’s definitely what I found with Sony Red. I am excited to put out our best music yet and hit radio hard!
With Silver Lining out now, what is the rest of your 2018 looking like? Do you have any other big plans in the works?
I will be releasing my first single with Sony soon and doing a lot of winter radio shows to close out the year, as well as writing new music.
