Nashville alt-pop band Nightly are no strangers to the constant hustle of the music industry. Since the release of their EP, Honest in 2016, the duo have been hard at work, relentlessly touring and releasing new music. Since the beginning of 2018, Nightly have released five new singles and marked quite a few tour stops off of their bucket lists. Now, they’re currently on the road once more with NF, but they’re not stopping there. With plans to release a second EP and even a full-length soon, this certainly won’t be the last you hear from Nightly this year.
Get caught up with the band and listen to their new singles, “S.T.A.Y.” and “Who Am I To You” below, and stay up to date with Nightly on Facebook.
Interview by Dom Vigil
You guys have been staying busy this year with a ton of tour dates and non-stop new music! What have been some of the highlights of your year so far?
There have been a lot for sure, but we’d probably have to say going to the UK/Ireland/northern Ireland. It was such an amazing experience for us. We can’t wait to go back.
Each tour you’ve been part of this year has been really diverse, from those shows with NF and The Struts to some with Colouring and The Night Game. I’m sure each run has had a very different crowd, so what has that experience been like, getting to play for all sorts of different people?
Yeah, it has been all over the place genre-wise. I think it’s been good just learning how to earn a crowds respect and gain new fans. Each tour has it’s challenges/benefits but I think each one helps make us tighter and more confident in what we’re doing.
Have there been any shows so far this year that have really stood out to you? Any big “wow” moments?
Honestly so many. It’s really tough to single any out. Dublin and London have to be up there though.
You’ve also been hard at work releasing new music since the start of the year, most recently your new single, “S.T.A.Y.”. Can you tell us a little bit about this track in particular? What inspired it?
We had made the little drum machine beat in the beginning of the song, and we were just talking about how in moments of weakness you look your ex up online and check up on them. That sort of inspired the rest of the song.
How do you feel you’ve grown or evolved between the release of your Honest EP a couple of years ago and the music you’re releasing now?
Good question! We’re still just making stuff that we love. I think one thing I like is how it feels a little more band-y being able to record proper drums and use the touring experience in our writing.
Did you have any goals in mind when you first started working on these songs? Anything you really wanted to accomplish with them or in this year?
Going to the UK was a big goal, and now that we’ve done it we definitely want to go back. Other than that headline in 2019.
With all of the new music you’ve been releasing lately, can fans expect another EP or possibly a full-length in the future?
Yes to both!
What is the rest of 2018 looking like for Nightly? Do you have any other big plans in the works?
Releasing ep2 and touring the full US with NF! After that we’re back in the studio in December.
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Thank you!
