Rock and roll trio Unwill have been through a lot since the release of their debut album, Past Life last year, but their upcoming album, Can’t Kill Me proves that it’s going to take a lot more than a few changes to get rid of them. Despite the loss of their label and band members, Unwill have emerged on top with Can’t Kill Me. The record, which was self-produced in a barn in upstate New York is out on November 16th, and according to the band, it’ll be easy to hear the difference between their older martial and Can’t Kill Me.
Ahead of the album, Unwill have already released their single, “Sometimes” and most recently, “Keep It Gold,” which can be heard now below. Get to know a little more about the band and Can’t Kill Me, and stay tuned for more new music soon!
Interview by Shannon Shumaker
Can you tell us a little bit about Unwill for anyone who might not be familiar?
Unwill is a rock band from New York that started in 2015. We’re just three dudes who love music and have a good time with each other. We want to bring that good time to others through rock ‘n’ roll baby!
You guys are gearing up to release your new album, Can’t Kill Me in November! What are you excited for fans to hear on this release?
Can’t Kill Me is as raw as it gets for us. If you give the whole record a listen every song will you hit you in a certain spot. We didn’t hold back in any way on this one.
Can’t Kill Me follows your debut full-length album, Past Life, which you released last year. How do you feel you’ve grown as musicians between then and now?
We’re always growing and pushing to be better at what we do, it’s what makes this so fun. There’s never a point where you feel like it’s “enough.” That drives some people crazy but we were crazy to begin with so it works for us.
Can’t Kill Me was self-produced in a barn in upstate New York. How do you feel this environment affected the album?
Infinitely. We were just free to make the music we were supposed to make. Truly free. You’ll hear the difference.
Did you come across any challenges when self-producing the album?
Now that you mention it, there were these damn raccoons running through the walls every time we had to track something quiet. You might hear it a couple times on the record.
What has been the most rewarding part about the writing and recording process of Can’t Kill Me?
We came into Can’t Kill Me from a pretty dark spot. We lost our label, our “team,” band members, sanity… But the three of us always had each other and we always had the vision of what we wanted this to be. That was the light that led us through everything that would have been impossible any other way. It almost killed us but we’re here, we’re better than ever, we’re happier than ever and we want to share that with you.
With the album out soon, can fans expect to hear some more new music in the coming weeks?
Absolutely.
Do you have any plans to hit the road or play any shows before the year comes to an end?
We plan on it! We just want to rock out with everyone.
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Thanks for talking “Can’t Kill Me” with us. We just want everyone to be free and feel the love. We hope you feel that when you hear this record, you can find your way through any darkness if you hold on to love.
