Interview by Dom Vigil
Can you tell us a little bit about The Blonde Tongues for anyone who might be hearing you for the first time?
Hi, we’re Michael, Mick, Charlie, John, and Jared. We’re a rock band from Florida, the hottest place on Earth, and we listen way too much of the Ramones.
You guys have been hard at work, writing, recording and releasing new music this year – first Anxiety Dream and now your new singles, “Turn Me Out” and “Rain Check.” What goals have you had in mind for your music this year? Was there anything that you wanted to accomplish?
What we’re trying to accomplish is writing and recording as much material as possible around tour schedules. We recently recorded more music in September, and we feel it’s our best work yet.
How do you feel you’ve grown or evolved with these new releases?
We’ve become really comfortable with the two engineers that we record with (Brendan and Sean Kelly) as well as ourselves. This has allowed us to expand our sound even further.
At the end of September, you released “Turn Me Out” and “Rain Check,” which were recorded live. What do you feel a live recording brings to a song that you might not tap into otherwise?
It’s the closest thing possible to getting a listener to feel as if they’re in the very same room as us in that moment in time. It’s real and the blemishes are left untouched. We don’t desire to be a “polished” band, but rather, just be ourselves.
What was the most rewarding or exciting part about working on these songs?
“Turn Me Out” is just an earful gem. It’s short, fuzzy, and boppy. These kinds of sounds are our bread and butter. “Rain Check,” on the other hand, is the longest song we’ve ever written. The track takes a long nose-dive of sonic exploration where we experimented with many different instruments. This has been something we’ve wanted to do for a long time.
What do you hope fans take away from these songs?
We hope listeners will take the words and apply it to their own lives. We want this to be an anthem for anyone who doesn’t want to live a life for anyone else.
With “Turn Me Out” and “Rain Check” out now, do you have any plans to release more music before the end of the year?
With the new songs we recorded in September, it’s safe to assume more music will be released before 2019.
Can fans expect to catch a live show sometime soon?
Be on the lookout for early 2019 tour dates!
