KINGDM has been involved in music in one way or another since he was five years old, from playing piano and drums to playing and touring in bands, producing, composing and songwriting. With a massive resume and plenty of experience under his belt, KINGDM is now focusing on his own music, with his latest single, “Dust” featuring Reo Cragun out now.
Now splitting his time between Los Angeles and Europe, KINGDM has his eyes set on producing, songwriting, and DJing, with plans to continue releasing singles throughout 2018 and 2019. We recently caught up with the multi-talented musician to chat about “Dust” and his upcoming plans for the rest of the year. Read the full interview now below.
Interview by Dom Vigil
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself for anyone who might not be familiar?
I was born in Italy in a small town close to Milan. I’ve been in music my whole life – started with the piano when I was really young, then the drums, played in bands, toured, became a composer, then a music producer, and a songwriter. I’ve experienced a little bit of everything before diving back into being an artist/producer.
Your interest in music was sparked at a very young age. What do you think it was that drew you to this world at first?
My grandfather used to be very passionate about music and I was spending a lot of time with him growing up. He played the accordion and had a vinyl collection at the house. He was the one introducing me to music and teaching me the first melodies on the piano.
How do you feel that your musical upbringing has affected the kind of music you’re writing and playing today?
I started producing a while ago. Through the years, I had the chance to experiment with lots of sounds and directions. I’ve never been a fan of sticking to a specific genre and I think that space dedicated to just making music for fun and to learning the craft influenced my sound and the way I think about music.
You just recently released your new single, “Dust,” featuring Reo Cragun. Can you tell us a little bit about the track? What inspired it?
The song is about a break up, about that feeling of everything falling to dust when two people part ways. It was a sort of prophecy ’cause the week prior to the release I actually broke up with my girlfriend. Just to keep things more real, you know 🙂
How did the collaboration with Reo Cragun come about? I heard you guys hadn’t even met in person before working together on the song.
Me and Reo worked on this track remotely before we even met. Our labels at the time introduced each other, I sent him the instrumental and a few days later he hit me back with the vocals.
With “Dust” out now, do you have any plans to release more new music before the year comes to an end?
I’m going to release a couple of songs before the end of the year.
Do you have any big goals in mind for new music? What are you hoping to accomplish by the end of 2018 or in 2019?
I’m planning to release about 30 tracks in 2019 and start touring the world before summer 2019.
Do you have any other big plans coming up? What can fans expect next?
My ultimate goal is to have access to millions of people around the world. I wanna be a living example for them to go for their dreams and to constantly push towards being their best selves. For me music is a gateway to it, it’s not the end goal.
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Thanks for the opportunity! I appreciate it.
