We recently caught up with the band to chat about the inspiration behind their new album and plans for the rest of 2019. Read the full interview now below.
Interview by Dom Vigil
Can you tell us a little bit about Alive In Barcelona for anyone who might not be familiar?
Alive in Barcelona is a modern rock band from Spokane Washington. Our focus is to spread hope through our music, in order to reach the ears of all who feel hopeless.
You guys are getting ready to start 2019 with the release of your upcoming self-titled album. What are you most excited for listeners to hear on the album?
Our message of hope. We want all of our listeners to know that we are normal people, who face normal, real world, struggles just like everyone else… this album is a summary of our struggles.
I know there are quite a few heavy themes on the album – can you tell us a little bit about what inspired it?
In a word, hopelessness. We are inspired by all manner of things, but none as strong as the suffering of others… we have all suffered in our own way, and through the support of our family and friends, were able to endure. We want to support others in the same way that we have been supported.
What would you like fans to take away from the album?
That they are never alone, no matter how hard things may seem.
What was the most challenging aspect of the songwriting process for this release?
Well, the hardest thing is putting our emotions in front of everyone’s eyes and ears… Sharing stories of struggle and hardship is always hard, you never know what people will say.
On the opposite end, what was the most rewarding part of writing and recording the album?
With every risk comes a reward… our reward is in hearing others as they share their stories of struggle. There’s nothing more amazing than hearing that what you’re working towards actually made a difference in the lives of others.
You guys kicked off the new year with the release of your new single, “Zombies” last month. What inspired this track in particular?
With the new year being ushered in, we figured zombies was the perfect way to call attention to society and it’s necessity for distraction. We choose to live our lives distracted from our obligations, a phenomena that is only increasing. An old mentor once told me that if you want to solve your problems, you have to face them head on… that’s a message that people need to hear, and apply.
With the album out soon, do you have any plans to hit the road or play any shows in the coming months?
Yes, we will be leaving on February 22 on a three week tour of the western United States, and we hit the road in April with Alesana and The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus for their co-headliner “shred till your dead tour”
Do you have any other big plans or goals for 2019?
Our first goal is billboard, then lining up a few more tours, and after that, we will go from there… One step at a time.
Thanks for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?
If anyone suffers from depression, anxiety, or thoughts of suicide… Please feel free to reach out to anyone of us. We are always ready to listen!
