Interview by Dom Vigil
You guys kicked off 2019 with the release of your latest single, “Sleep Is For The Dead.” Can you tell us a little bit about the track?
Sleep is one of our collective favorites off of Luciferous. While it has elements that are sure to please fans of our previous work it also delves into some new melodic and structural elements that will be revealed in depth with the album.
“Sleep Is For The Dead” comes from your upcoming album, Luciferous, out this April! What are you most excited for fans to hear on the album?
We’re excited for fans to hear our maturation as songwriters and as people. Our music is evolving into something we are all extremely proud of and we hope old and new fans will enjoy the ride.
You’ve mentioned that Luciferous is your most mature album to date – how do you feel you’ve grown as artists between Embodiment and this album?
These songs all felt extremely natural to us, from inception to finalization. This album is more in tune with our development as musicians and is a strong collective effort of our influences.
Did you have any major goals in mind when you first started working on the album?
The only goal was to write the best songs that we could, no guidelines, no rules, just compositions from the heart.
Were there any challenges you came across when working on Luciferous? If so, how did you overcome them?
Fortunately the songwriting process was pretty fluent though the songs presented technical obstacles for us. These songs have really pushed our limits as musicians and we’ve all put in a lot of work to be able to perform this album.
On the opposite end, what was the most exciting or rewarding part of writing and recording the album?
Recording with the legendary Jason Suecof was a lot of fun and very rewarding for us all. He’s produced some of our favorite albums so when we got the opportunity to work with him we were all extremely stoked. He made the recording process fun, stress free, and had valuable insight on every song. We’re happy to call him a friend in addition to our producer.
With “Sleep Is For The Dead” out now, can fans expect to hear any more new music from the album before its release?
Yes! We’ll be releasing one more single before the release titled “The Failsafe Fallacy”. This song is one of the strongest tunes on the record and continues to reveal new elements of our matured sound.
You’re also in the midst of tour dates that stretch throughout May! What are you looking forward to the most on these upcoming shows?
We’ll actually be on the road until the middle of June, we just announced support for Chelsea Grin and we have one more tour to announce as well. It’s perfect timing for us to be on the road for 3 months straight in support of our new album and we’re looking forward to playing these new songs every night.
Do you have any other big plans for 2019?
Promoting our new album and touring as much as we’re able. Get ready for Luciferous.
