Can you tell us a little bit about Late Night Revival for anyone who might not be familiar?
Late Night Revival is an alternative rock band from Southern California consisting of Neil Johnson (vocals, guitar), Adam Dashwood (guitar) and Jace Whitaker (drums). For fans of: Bad Suns, COIN, Catfish and the Bottlemen, and Circa Waves. We just released our new single “Xo”, which is the first release since our 2016 self titled EP.
You guys just released your new single, “Xo.” Can you tell us about the song? What inspired it?
“Xo” is a song about losing love, and trying to cope with that. All the questions that run through your head. It’s also got a hopeful undertone to it, a bit of a realization that some things just come and go, and that;s okay.
Did you have any major goals in mind when you began working on “Xo”?
To become the biggest band that has ever existed on this planet. No in all seriousness, we take the same approach with every song we create. Most importantly we want to write something that feels genuine and true to who we are, in hopes of connecting with as many people as possible. That’s the goal.
“Xo” is not only your first new music of 2019, but it’s the first new music you’ve released since your self-titled EP in 2016. How do you feel you’ve grown between then and now?
I think we’ve learned a lot for sure, and grown. As far as songwriting goes, we’re always pushing ourselves in that department, but also, more about what it means to run a band. When we were little kids playing in a garage for hours, not a care in the world, it’s a totally different mindset then when you’re an adult and really trying to make music a career. In a lot of ways I’ll always feel like that 12 year old in the garage. Music is great that way. We’re still growing.
Looking back on it, what are some of your favorite things about the EP?
The EP was a ton of fun to make and we are still very proud of it. Compared to “Xo,” we definitely experimented a bit more with different sounds and keys etc. on the EP. That’s something we’ll always have around, some less and some more than others, just depending on the song we’re working on. If I had to choose a favorite song from the EP, it’d definitely be “Out of Body.”
How would you like to expand on the sounds found on the EP with future releases? Where would you like to go next musically?
That’s a great question! There will definitely be elements of the EP in future songs, we’re not going to completely flip the script and go death metal or anything, but I think it’s just one of those things that happens organically, so I can’t really say which way we’re headed. We always keep an open mind about it. Whatever feels most natural at that time.
With “XO” out now, can fans expect to hear any new music soon?
Yes. We’re actually in the studio right now finishing up some follow up singles we’ll be releasing very soon. Then, we’ll be back in the studio September for more.
Do you have any other big plans for the remainder of 2019? Any shows coming up our tour plans?
Releasing more music, more videos, and definitely more shows. We don’t have a tour lined up as of now, but it is definitely in our future plans. We can’t wait! We’re just trying to stay as busy as possible as a band.
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?
