Interview by Dom Vigil
Can you tell us a little bit about Single By Sunday for anyone who might not be familiar?
We’re a pop band; nearly four years from Scotland. We take our music far more serious that we take ourselves and believe in having fun on stage. Our genre is (melodic) Pop Punk, with lots of energy.
You guys recently wrapped up a very busy 2018 with the release of your EP, Punk-U and countless tour dates, and already have a packed 2019. What has been the highlight of the last year for you?
The big highlight had to be playing at ‘First Night’ concert in Boston. Who’s gonna complain about playing to an audience of 50K plus having it televised by NBC10? Certainly not us. A couple of other highlights were doing a 17 date cross country US tour; going West to East coast. Our UK tour was also a good one. It was our first official UK headline tour which meant that we got to play some cities that we hadn’t done before and this meant making new contacts and more fans…… happy days!
What are you looking forward to in the rest of 2019?
2019, is so far shaping up to be really good. We’ll be releasing lots more new music and putting out lots more videos. We’re also looking forward to playing more shows, whilst also working with Maverick Management at developing our US profile.
You also just released your latest music video for “I Want You (You Want Me)”! What made you want to create a video for this song in particular?
We always knew that there would be a video for ‘I Want You’. The hard part was deciding what direction it would take (i.e – serious and moody or sickly sweet with roses). In the end, we decided on neither.
We ended up going with something that we felt would show some of the band’s personality. We wanted our fun side to be captured, with us just messing around but still letting people see us in a live context.
What would you like fans to take away from “I Want You (You Want Me)”?
Wow! I fancy seeing that band live. I think I’ll go and check out more of their music. Be honest about who you are, who you’re in to and what you’re into. As a band we know what we believe in and all have pretty strong opinions but in this video we just want people to laugh with us…. or at us.
What inspired the video for “I Want You (You Want Me)”?
The fun side of ‘Single By Sunday’, it’s really as simple as that. We like to have fun on stage so why not do it in the video? It also allows people to see us messing around, what’s not to like? lol.
Following the release of “I Want You (You Want Me)”, you’ll be hitting the road for a short run in the UK. What can fans expect from these upcoming shows?
The UK tour is going to be a lot of fun. It’s a small snapshot for us; we thought that whilst we had some time, we would throw in some UK shows to try and capitalize on what we did last year. We also want to stay contacted with our UK audience.
Do you have any other big plans coming up for 2019? Any additional shows or maybe some more new music?
Yes, yes and yes. As we said, we’re currently working with our management team to plan the next track/video releases, as well as putting a tour schedule together. We’d really like to make the most of every and any opportunities that come our way. Anything that raises our profile really. We are up for support slots, bar mitzvahs, stadium tours, appearances on Ellen, Jimmy Fallon and the list goes on….. lol.
