Interview by Dom Vigil
You’re gearing up for an exciting spring and summer filled with new music and tour dates! What are you most excited for in the coming weeks and months?
I’m excited to invite everyone to Hippieland! The music has been being received so well that it is just a warm fuzzy feeling!
Just last month, you released your new single, “Somethin’ More” which arrives just in time for spring. Sonically, was there anything you wanted to accomplish with this track?
Yes. I want to combine musicality, simplicity, melody, and lyrical mantra based positivity!
We all want something more! And that’s okay!
Lyrically, “Somethin’ More” is a reminder that it’s okay to want more as long as you’re grateful for what you have – was there any event or moment in particular that inspired this track?
My son being born changed my life. Made me want more for him but also made me grateful for my blessings!
The song also features vocals from Mike Posner and Cody Simpson. What do you feel they were able to bring to the song?
I just love instances like Sting singing on Dire Straights or Mick Jagger singing on You’re So Vein by Carly Simon where fans can find out one of their favorites participated but wasn’t called out or promoted per say. It’s a musical Easter egg! And I love my brothers and it’s always a pleasure to collaborate. Plus they have such sweet voices!
What was the most rewarding part of working on “Somethin’ More”?
Just being content with the final version of a song. Feeling like it’s done and I wouldn’t change a thing…
You’ve been working on new music since last year as well. How would you like to see yourself grow or evolve with these new songs? Do you have any big goals for your new music?
I want to play Red Rocks solo. I want to be able to tour at the highest level for the rest of my life like Willie Nelson…
You’re also gearing up for a run of tour dates! What are you looking forward to the most on these upcoming dates?
I am a performer at heart. I was the class clown. I love giving people my all and getting that energy back…
Do you have any other big plans or goals in mind for 2019?
I’m gonna win a Grammy!
