Sun-kissed indie-pop artist, Preston Lovinggood has had one hell of a summer so far, and it’s only getting started. Following the release of his new album, Consequences out in May, Lovinggood has been out on the road in support of the album and isn’t planning on slowing down before the summer comes to an end. With plans to perform at local Alabama festival, Secret Stages and more shows coming up, 2019 is poised to be one hell of a year for Lovinggood.
Consequences is Lovinggood’s third full-length release and is easily his most vulnerable, concise and hook-laden album to date. Listen to the album and read what he had to say about it now below.
You’ve had an exciting spring and summer with the release of your new album, Consequences and some tour dates throughout this month! What has been the highlight of your year so far?
I have had a blast playing with a band on stage consistently. The bond that that can bring is so important to the creative process. The songs finally feel finished when I play them in front of a live audience.
Can you tell us a little bit about Consequences? What inspired the album?
I was watching a lot of friends’ lives fall apart and felt like mine was on the brink. It’s amazing and scary to see how every action has a consequence. It was incredible to see the community around me reaped what we sowed by helping each other make good decisions
The new album is a little autobiographical in a sense – was there anything that you were anxious to discuss in these songs? Anything you were excited to address?
The thing about songwriting I like, is that you can be tricky and change the nouns. I was excited to put my story out there. The struggle with mental illness and the power of letting go of your past.
How do you feel you’ve grown between Consequences and Shadow Songs? Was there anything you wanted to accomplish on the new album that you haven’t been able to do before?
I for sure feel like I have grown. Discovering the joy of collaboration again and the ability to know how to ask for help definitely influenced the record. The part of my brain that is usually in full force felt like it was in hibernation. I needed a lot of help with the lyrics and that was new and really hard for me to admit.
What was the most rewarding part of working on the album?
The letting go process of trusting my producers and seeing the songs come alive right in front of me.
What was the most challenging?
Trying to make the record on a shoestring budget was stressful. Having to deal with the business side of everything can be hard for me. But with the help of friends and family we prevailed!
You’re just wrapping up some tour dates in support of the album as well. What has been the highlight of these shows?
The highlight is connecting with old friends. It’s very peaceful to feel like they are a part of the creative process! You can meet a lot of dear friends over the years and it was so good to share that time together.
Do you have any other big plans for the summer? Any more shows or tour dates coming up?
Playing a local festival called Secret Stages and getting to open for an amazing band called, the Brooke and Bluff.
Thanks for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?
