2019 has been a massive year for Jagwar Twin. Following the release of his debut album, Subject to Flooding, Jagwar Twin mastermind, Roy English embarked on a massive run of spring tour dates alongside lovelytheband and currently, he’s celebrating the success of his fan-favorite single, “Loser” while out on the road with Avril Lavigne. With no sign of slowing down soon and a growing army of passionate fans eager to know his next move, we recently caught up with Jagwar Twin to chat about Subject to Flooding, upcoming tour dates and plans for the future.
You’ve have had a busy year so far with your recent signing to Atlantic Records and tour with lovelytheband this spring. What has been the highlight of your year so far?
It’s been a great year. We played a sold out show at The Greek Theatre in LA last night and that was pretty surreal. We’re really only getting started but enjoying every moment.
You’re now currently out on the road with Avril Lavigne – how have those shows been so far? What are you looking forward to at upcoming shows?
The shows have been amazing. Oakland was actually crazy. There were kids mobbed outside the gates of the venue singing Loser at the top of their lungs. The Losersquad is really something special.
These shows have been in support of your recently released album, Subject to Flooding. Are there any songs on the album that you’ve really been enjoying playing live? Any fan favorites that the crowd has been loving?
Move To You has been magical live. Everyone puts their phones in the air and it feels like I’m looking out into space. Seeing everyone wave their L’s in the air during Loser is also a high point every night. It’s so cool feeling the energy in the room shift with that song and in those moments it feels like everyone is feeling that freedom of being their truest self. Shine also really goes off and it’s amazing seeing the crowd singing along to that one.
Now that it has been out for a little while, what are some of your favorite things about the album? Looking back on it, what are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of the fact that we pulled it together at all. The odds were completely against us. I had no money to make it but so many amazing people really connected to the universal consciousness of the project and jumped in anyway. S1, Jeff Bhasker, Linus, Travis Barker, and so many other great people contributed to make this album what it is.
How do you feel you’ve grown as an artist with the writing, recording and release of Subject to Flooding?
Through the process of Subject To Flooding I completely changed my diet, my meditation and prayer practices, views on governmental and human made institutions and most of all, learned so much about myself. This album changed me and everyone involved and if it has even half that impact on listeners then I think we made something special.
The album also features your current single, “Loser.” Can you tell us a little bit about the track? What inspired it?
Loser is about how we all walk around with these masks on and try to be what we think other people want us to be. But if we remove those masks we find that we’re all human underneath and we’re all losers. There is only perceived separation.
What would you like for fans to take away from “Loser” or Subject to Flooding as a whole?
That everything is possible and we are all one. More now than ever, we need to come together as a human race.
With the Avril Lavigne tour wrapping up next month, do you have any other big plans for 2019? What’s next for Jagwar Twin?
Lots a really great things coming.
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Thank you! Big Love
