2019 might be quickly coming to an end, but for newly signed Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc. recording artist, Tedy, things are only getting started. Earlier this month, Tedy released his label debut, “Stuck” and it’s safe to say that he has plenty more tricks up his sleeve for those that he is about to hook with the new single. With central themes surrounding sadness, depression and self-destruction, “Stuck” underscores that despite whatever traumatic situation we have experienced, we need to accept the good and the dark side of ourselves in order to move forward.
With a desire to make people feel with his music and his vulnerable new single out now, it’s safe to say that Tedy is not only an artist to keep an eye on in 2020, but he’s a force to be reckoned with. Read about the new song and more now below, and keep an eye out for more new music from Tedy out soon.
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself for anyone who might not be familiar?
My name is Tedy. I love singing, writing and creating more than anything. I enjoy anime, gaming and 12 hour movie days! (I go to a movie theatre and watch everything I can from 11am to midnight).
How did you first get your start in music? What inspired you to get involved with it?
I was depressed and didn’t like where I was in my life. I always knew I wanted to be a singer and that if I didn’t go for it I would regret it. So in the head of my depression, I decided I would write a song “Soar”. It all started from there and I never looked back.
You just recently released your new single, “Stuck.” Can you tell us about the song? What inspired it?
“Stuck” is about allowing yourself to feel the pain of whatever you are going through, but still going for what you want and moving forward in life. I was always so scared of being judged and being such a perfectionist that it was detrimental. Deciding that I didn’t have to be perfect or let this pain consume me was the best thing.
“Stuck” is a pretty personal song – did it feel therapeutic at all when working on it? What was the writing process like?
I don’t know about therapeutic, maybe stressful. I had to dig so deep and be honest about parts of myself that I didn’t know I could be honest about, and that takes a lot of mental effort to get past. Although I would say there is some relief in being able to express and accept such vulnerabilities.
The new single follows your 2018 EP, .Idk. How do you feel you’ve grown between then and now?
I feel the difference is in the way that I express myself. I got to really build “Stuck” from scratch and really dig deep within myself and create what I’ve always wanted to bring into the world.
With “Stuck” out now, do you have any other music on the way? What can fans expect next?
Yes, of course. Although I will let it be a surprise what comes next. I will say, be ready for an emotional journey.
Do you have any big plans or goals for 2020?
I hope to do a lot of live performances and meet a lot of the people that support me. I want to grow as a person not only in my art, but in my personal life as well. I want to take more steps to become the artist that I envision myself to be.
Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?
If there’s one thing people should get from me, it’s that I want to make people feel. Cry, get mad, be happy, whatever. As long as I make you feel something, that’s all I care about. I will go above and beyond to connect with you and allow you to truly get lost in my music.
