INTERVIEW: Hello Forever Discuss Their Upcoming Album, “Whatever It Is”

    By Dom VigilFebruary 18, 2020
    Hello Forever Interview

Art-pop collective, Hello Forever kicked off 2020 with the release of their stunning and jovial new single, “I Want To Marry You”, which will make you long for summer, and now, they’re gearing up to follow it up with the release of their debut album, Whatever It Is. Out February 21st, Whatever It Is is a perfect exploration of Hello Forever’s sounds, spotlighting the laptop-age “pocket symphony” that the group has created with a culmination of musical influences and elaborate arrangements full of their signature barbershop quartet-style harmonies. With the album out soon, we caught up with Hello Forever to discuss their goals for the album, plans for 2020 and more. Read the full interview below.

Can you tell us a little bit about Hello Forever for anyone who might be hearing you for the first time?

Hello Forever is a collective from Topanga, CA. We make psychedelic pop.

How did you all first come together and begin creating music as Hello Forever?

We’re all exes who stayed really close friends [laughs.] We all went to school together actually.

You’ve mentioned before that Hello Forever was created with the sole mission of spreading joy through music. What does that mean to you? What do you look for when you’re writing or creating?

I wouldn’t say that’s our sole mission. We do feel like if people experience joy through our music then that is awesome though. We’re grateful to be able to provide experiences to people. Our sole purpose is to create the music that is meant to be created through us. Our intention primarily is to serve that purpose and then share that music with anybody who is needing to receive it.

You’re getting ready to release your debut album, Whatever It Is later this month! What are you most excited for listeners to hear on the album?

The songs, the singing, the arrangements. I’m excited for them to hear anything they like or have feelings about or transforms / uplifts them. I’m excited for it to be out in the world. It’s the first record I’ve made and I’m excited that it gets to live and it gets to fly.

It being your debut album, was there anything in particular that you wanted to accomplish with Whatever It Is? What would you like for fans to take away from it?

The only things we wanted to accomplish was to get out the way and let the music become what it wants to be.

You’ve released a handful of singles from the album so far, most recently “I Want To Marry You.” Can you tell us a little bit about this song in particular?

“I Want To Marry You” is about connecting with yourself and connecting with everything around you. It’s fleeting and you only really have it right now, today.

Do you have any other big plans coming up this year? Any tour dates or shows coming up?

Yes! We’re playing some awesome festivals and touring throughout 2020 that we can’t announce yet. We’re currently recording our second album which you’ll hear some of this year as well.

Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?

We love Denver <3 A bunch of us grew up and lived in the Denver/Boulder area. We’re excited to come home and play in the 303.
