INTERVIEW: Miri Music Brings Unique Live Sessions to Denver

    By Dom VigilMarch 26, 2020
    Miri Music 1

Producer and multi-instrumentalist Ramel Sanchez is no stranger to the Denver music scene. Not only does Ramel play drums in Oxeye Daisy, bass in Nuancer and do production for Babelord, he is also the owner and visionary behind Miri Music, a local studio who, just this year, launched their new project, Miri Music Sessions. With a desire to record video and sound that truly captures the dynamics of an artist’s live performance and create a unique performance video for each artist, Miri Music Sessions was born. Each month for the foreseeable future, Miri Music will feature one artist for free in their studio sessions (artists can enter HERE) by partnering with local photographers, videographers and producers to create a one of a kind experience and performance.

With two sessions out now (Watch Big Dopes HERE and Gestalt HERE) and another coming at the end of March, we caught up with Ramel to talk about the work that goes into Miri Music Sessions and his plans for its future. Read more about the project now below!

Can you tell us a little bit about the concept behind Miri Music Sessions? What inspired this project?

Absolutely! I truly love the Denver music scene and have always dreamed of having our own version of like what Audiotree does in Chicago, or KEXP in Seattle — video and sound that truly captures the dynamics of an artist’s live performance, but also something with its own visual style. After being so heavily entrenched in the local music scene I wanted to provide a platform for new eclectic artist discovery out of Denver. It was very important that I help artist obtain quality live video with great audio to help with bookings and promotions of their own. One quality Miri Music session can be vital in providing talent buyers an accurate idea of what a band can bring to the stage when booking tours. I had felt that need myself and it made me want to provide this for artists all the while making sure the production shows as much heart and care as the music of the performing artists.

Tell us a little bit about the team behind the project and what goes into creating these videos. What has been the best part of working on it so far?

Andy Borgione is a Producer, Photographer, & Videographer. He has been creating photo and video content with local bands since moving to Denver in 2014. His work has been featured in Westword & 303 Magazine. In his professional life, Andy is a Producer at AOR, a local advertising agency, where he leads photo and video projects for a huge range of clients.

Jake Cox is a photographer, retoucher and visual artist from Denver. He’s been doing photography for 10 years and is mainly self taught. He has a cat named Jeff, loves hockey and collecting vinyI. He currently works as an editorial and commerical photographer and as a retoucher in the Denver Metro area doing advertising photography.

Stephen Pamas is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer, and engineer who has been involved in the Denver music scene since 2015. His experience with live sound, lyricism, and song crafting allows him to drive your song to new heights and brings out that special sauce that listeners can’t get enough of.

The best part of working on this so far has been to see the excitement of everyone involved. Everyone on the Miri Music team is helplessly passionate about music and art. Watching them merge their professional worlds with their passions is truly a gift. That along with the reactions of the bands when they first walk in the studio and when they see the final product.

As far as artists go, are you looking to feature mainly local artists or touring musicians? Both?

Currently we are looking mainly to feature Denver artists, as things grow we hope to incorporate touring acts and make Miri Music a Denver destination.

As someone who has been involved in the Colorado music scene both on the artist side of things and now behind the scenes, what do you hope that this project can bring to the local scene?

Live sessions can often be quite awkward, sterile, or intimidating for artists. I hope Miri Music can be a safe space for artists to let go and let us capture their most personal and genuine performances with lighting and production that elevates the auditory experience.

You’ve mentioned that you’ll be featuring a new artist each month for the foreseeable future. If someone is interested in getting involved, how would you suggest they do so?

Please contact me though our website www.Mirimusic.com or at [email protected] I would love to create something you’ll love together!

Looking toward the future, do you have any big goals or plans coming up for the project?

After growing the channel and studio we will be looking to move into a bigger commercial space. There we plan to create a collective wellspring of what people want to hear and see. A watering hole for Denver creatives to have peer-to-peer connections about music and art.

When can we expect the next session to go live and where can we keep an eye out for updates?

The next session will go live on March 30th. Subscribe to our YouTube channel to see all the new sessions that come out over the course of the year!

Thank you for taking the time to chat! Is there anything you’d like to add?

We aren’t stopping, reach out and be a part of this with us!
