“It’s an exciting time for the band,” says frontman Matt Bigland of UK indie rock bandDINOSAUR PILE-UP on their support slot on the upcoming tour with alt-rock heroes Brand New. “It’s an honour to be asked to tour with them.” Following previous tours with Pixies, Cage the Elephant, Middle Class Rut among others, this upcoming tour is not just a great musical pairing and their biggest tour yet, but one of camaraderie as well. “We played a couple of shows in UK with them and there was a lot of mutual love flying about,” he laughs. (tour dates below)
Following the transatlantic success of their latest album NATURE NURTURE (So Recordings), the band is embarking Stateside in support of the album and to win over even more US fans.SPIN says of the band, “the noise-rock trio present a twisted fever dream of pastel colors and VHS static,” while The 405 calls Nature Nurture, “a thoroughly impressive album, packed to the brim with effervescent hooks and choruses, filled with enough power to punch through brick walls.” From the powerchord launch of “Arizona Waiting” to the swirling guitars of“Peninsula” to the punky staccato-punctuation of “Start Again”, the album is an aural assault that has AltSounds hailing, “Nature Nurture cements Dinosaur Pile-Up right at the frontline of British alternative music right now. Great music, great attitude and great album. You’d be a fool not to check this bad boy out.”
The new single “Derail” is perfectly poised to erupt on the US market. Almost winsome in parts but manically dynamic in the chorus, it posits them right in the foreground of the alt-rock realm, mixing in equal parts of Colour and Shape, Feeder, and even Pinkerton-era Weezer. “It’s about losing your shit and coming off the rails,” Matt explains. “I was in a pretty dark place when I wrote the song and it captured my mood.” The grindhouse-esque video inspired by Hitchcock’s Psycho and any of Tarantino’s oeuvre, stars X-Factor semi-finalist Diana Vickersas the femme fatale with a twist. “The video has a cinematic quality about it and we wanted an American vibe, so we shot it in the desert near LA,” he recalls. After their run of US dates in July with Brand New, Dinosaur Pile-Up will be “touring Japan and playing Summer Sonic festival this summer plus a load of UK festivals and a European run in fall,” he explains. “It’s an exciting time for the band,” he reiterates. For Dinosaur Pile-Up, it is… definitely.
