A little more than two months since what fans have dubbed as “the blackout”, The Maine have broken their social media silence today – with several big announcements. In what was likely the most anticipated, they released news of their fifth full-length album. The band announced the record is titled American Candy and is set for release this spring; official release date not yet announced. Though the band’s whereabouts after their final show of 2014 was known to be at a studio in Joshua Tree, California, the band kept quiet about any details of the record – across not only their public band pages but also each member’s personal social media accounts as well. Only occasionally popping up in photos posted to the socials of producer Colby Wedgeworth or photographer Dirk Mai, The Maine, who are normally recognized within the industry by their social media presence, aided the mystery surrounding this fifth album with their silence. “As a band that spends a lot of time staying in contact with the people that listen to our music we wanted to get away for a little bit and remove any pressure that comes with people waiting for what’s next,” drummer Pat Kirch explains. “I think getting away from the internet let us only focus on what felt right for the five of us.”
Now, with American Candy confirmed for release later this year, the band are ready to head out on the road in support of the new record. Appropriately named after the upcoming album itself, the American Candy Tour will be headlined by The Maine with support from Fearless Records’ pop-punk Real Friends of whom The Maine spent some time with on the Vans Warped Tour this past summer. Additional support comes from Chicago based Knuckle Puck (Rise Records) and fellow 8123 artist The Technicolors. Full tour dates for this US/Canada run have been released and can be seen below.
In an effort to cut ticket costs for the fans, the band have set aside a limited number of tickets for a “no-fee” pre-sale. In most markets, these discounted tickets will go on sale tomorrow, as of 10am local time (see venue websites for details). All five members of The Maine will be personally taking over the box office for their hometown show, at Marquee Theatre in Tempe, AZ for the pre-sale, to meet fans and sell tickets directly. General on-sale for the tour begins Friday January 9th, also at 10am local time.
