After announcing their fall touring plans to headline the Run Wild Tour, Arizona’s Lydia confirm today what has been speculated by fans – that their upcoming 2015 release is of the same name. The album – Run Wild – drops September 18th, just three tour dates into the fall run. The full-length is the first from Lydia since their 2013 release of Devil which Absolute Punk calls “….the best example of Lydia’s ability as songwriters.”
Run Wild is another record in the catalogue for producer Colby Wedgeworth – who produced their 2013 release. This time around, Lydia sought input from two different producers. As a result, half of Run Wild is produced by Wedgeworth and half by Aaron Marsh of Copeland. “This was the first time for us using two producers,” the band’s frontman and founding member Leighton Antelman explains. “We simply felt like the more the merrier. When ideas start pouring out and bouncing around the room something special happens there.” Alongside the announcement, comes the release of the band’s first single, “Past Life” produced by Marsh.
With regards to the writing process, Antelman claims “we never set out to write a certain album, it’s just however the album comes out. This time it just happens to be a little darker than our last release.” The last album, Devil was widely described as Lydia’s lightest, most summery to date. “If This December….and Illuminate were Lydia’s fall and winter, beautiful but blue, than Devil would be its sunny and warm counterpart,” idobi reviewed. Fans can expect to hear more of those dark undertones on Run Wild.
The band couldn’t be more excited to take this new material out on the road. The Run Wild Tour, their first headliner since last spring, will mark the first time some of these songs will be played live. Lydia gave the first teaser to fans in attendance on their spring run with The Early November earlier this year where they added one of the new songs to their set. This time round, fans will have the opportunity to pick up the record and learn the lyrics to sing along.
“Past Life”, the first single off Run Wild can be heard over on the band’s website.
