The best Americana acts have always had a natural, intuitive feel to their style and sound. When one listens to the debut album Fallow from The Afternoon Edition, it instills that same feeling. Formed by brothers Connor and Shane Noetzel with friend Brian Gallio, the band has been recognized for their homage to classic Americana acts such as The Band and Neil Young, while still bringing a refreshing take to the well-respected genre. As Elmore Magazine puts it, “this trio … proves that they may indeed have what it takes to go toe to toe with the Americana heavyweights that they love.” You can stream Fallow below.
“As far back as we can remember, the sounds of the 60’s and 70’s were hitting our eardrums and churning up emotion and fascination before we were even aware,” says singer Connor Noetzel. These influences can be distinctly heard on the band’s singles “Canyon Lights” and “I Can’t Stay”. Launched this summer, both tracks have received praise from writers, both in the US, as well as the UK and Ireland. When asked about the inspiration behind Fallow, the band states “The most captivating part of this music for us is the influence and history it contributed to in our own backyard, The Hudson Valley. It’s hard not to feel the same influence this area had on our heroes in the Folk/Americana scene years ago. We’ve set out to continue that tradition, and to use the same tools these artists had to create music that comes from the same rivers, hills and valleys that used to inspire them, and in turn now inspires us. It was only natural for us to wrap them in the Americana and Country aesthetic, which have always provided us with the comfort of wearing our hearts on our sleeves.”
A bit folk, a bit country, The Afternoon Edition have taken the best of both genres to create their own distinctive and personal sound. With their endearing lyrics and solid harmonies, the band appeals to a variety of listeners, including fans of classic acts such as The Band, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, The Byrds, and more. Brothers Connor and Shane Noetzel and friend Brian Gallio quickly bonded over their love of music. With Connor as lead vocalist and main songwriter, Shane on lead guitar, and Brian on banjo, acoustic guitar, and piano, The Afternoon Edition took shape and began writing together. “No One Will Know”, the debut EP from The Afternoon Edition, was released on May 7th, 2013. They have since played at iconic venues in the New York area, including The Bitter End, The Living Room, Pianos, Rockwood Music Hall, and the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, the original site of the Woodstock Festival. With their debut album to be released on August 28th, the group aims to emphasize their unique ability to blend styles, focusing on digging into the history and styling of roots-rock, as well as the importance of folk and its influence on today’s music
