Swedish supergroup Amason will be hitting the road with Of Monsters and Men, with a Colorado performance on October 13th at The 1st Bank Center in Broomfield. Amason are currently touring in support of their recently released debut album, Sky City.
Amason are the collective talents of Pontus Winnberg (Miike Snow), Gustav Ejstes (Dungen), Petter Winnberg (Little Majorette), Amanda Bergman (Hajen, Idiot Wind), and Nils Törnqvist (Little Majorette). The band formed around the creative collective, Ingrid, in Stockholm – a group of like-minded musicians that includes Lykke Li and Peter Bjorn and John.
We recently had the chance to chat with Amanda Bergman about the band’s new album and upcoming tour. Check out the full interview below, and grab tickets to Amason’s show at The 1st Bank Center HERE.
THE PRELUDE PRESS: Can you tell us a little bit about Amason for any readers who may not be familiar?
AMANDA BERGMAN: We’re a group of Swedish musicians who formed a band mainly thanks to Pontus Winnberg who had many beers over the span of many years with all four of us. One on one at first, talking with whoever of us he was drinking with about how there ought to be some music making taking place sometime. All of a sudden he had booked some studio time and made all five of us show up at the same place at the same time. Some of us were shaking hands for the first time. Then we went down to the studio and started recording.
Now that is has nearly been a year since you released Sky City, how do you feel the reception of the album has been?
We’ve had such a great response here in Scandinavia, it seems like many people here have granted Sky City a place in their hearts and minds. We’re so very humbled and grateful for that. We are also so happy that we have been warmly embraced by fans in the US who’ve discovered our music or seen us live the few times we’ve been over so far. We are super excited to bring Sky City to other parts of your country with this upcoming support tour with Of Monsters And Men.
What has been your favorite track from Sky City to play live?
I think all of us really enjoy playing “Duvan”. It has a very sensual beat!
Like you said, you’re getting ready to hit the road in the US opening for Of Monsters And Men very soon! Are there any shows or places you’re particularly excited for?
Oh, all of them! We’re so happy they chose us as an opener. Personally I’m looking forward to the Greek Theatre show in Berkeley. I’ve heard so many great things about that venue and I’m looking forward to jumping around in all the benches before they open the gates. If the Greek lets me.
What can fans expect from these upcoming shows?
Our best effort to play live music! And of course a chance to hear the songs we’ve released, live.
For people who may be hearing you for the first time on this tour, what would you like them to take away from your music or live performance?
Well I simply hope they enjoy the music and that they find some inspiration. All of us really love music and I hope that shines through.
What do you hope to contribute to these shows?
Perhaps we can add just another color to the concert each evening! Unintentional amp noise and loud pianos and songs in Swedish… No, not just that. But of course we hope to contribute to the whole experience somehow and give our best possible energy to the OMAM fans.
After this tour, and with the new year coming up, are there any other big plans for Amason in the works?
We’re releasing a 4-track EP here in Scandinavia called “Flygplatsen” on October 23rd and with that we’re touring Scandinavia up until Christmas. We might release an English version of the EP also… All of us have other bands and projects alongside with Amason and even if we don’t really like to use the word prioritize, when it comes to music there’ll be other record releases in 2016 from Amason members that will make it harder to find time for as many Amasonian shows and releases as we did this year.
Thanks for taking the time to chat with us! Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Thank YOU! We look forward to seeing everyone at the shows and we are so excited to come back to the US.
