Alternative-Folk rockers SCI-FI ROMANCE have come out of their unforeseen hiatus to announce the premiere of their first single “If I Fell” in New Noise Magazine. After taking the time to refocus on family and writing, Lead Singer-Songwriter Vance Kotrla is ready to lead his beloved project back through the LA music scene, championing a new era of what PopMatters called ” Steampunk-Americana“.
When asked about the meaning behind the hauntingly, beautiful single, Kotrla dug deep into his own relationship history. “One of the hardest things to process when I found myself back in a serious relationship was not knowing if I could trust what I was feeling,” says Kotrla, “It was like I didn’t remember what you were supposed to feel and when, and always worrying about what happens if you’re wrong.”

The band is also excited to announce that their third full-length album Dust Among The Stars is set for a January 2016 release date. “This album was a hard-fought son of a bitch,” says Kotrla, “I’m proud we never gave up on it.”
“After I wrote the songs, our first drummer had a baby, and went on what turned out to be a permanent hiatus,” Kotrla reflects on the process behind the album and the set-backs. “Then my wife and I suddenly found out we had twins on the way. We sat there with a record written and ready to go for over a year, but couldn’t get into the studio. But we added a new drummer, got the songs up on their feet, and never gave up on it.”
Sci-Fi Romance is an alt-folk/Americana band from Los Angeles, led by singer-songwriter Vance Kotrla. With a lineup of guitar, drums, and cello, the band’s dark, textured sound is evocative of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, American Records-era Johnny Cash, and contemporary folk-influenced acts like The Decemberists or Iron & Wine.
Sci-Fi Romance will be performaning at Los Angeles’ Pig N’ Whistle (6714 Hollywood Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90028)
on November 13, 2015.
