Emily Kopp has set to kick off 2016 with new music and big adventure with the announcement of her new EP Making Sense Of set for release on December 4, 2015. To celebrate the announcement, Emily has unveiled a sneak peek of the EP’s lead single, “Chasing Streetlights,” with a live studio video that can be viewed here. Making Sense Of is a follow up to Kopp’s independent full-length debut, Serendipity Find Me (October 2013). Following the debut, Kopp [with band in tow] took to the road; And after nearly two years of life on tour, Kopp has truly sculpted a sound all her own. Making Sense Of is a four song glimpse into that bold, hooky, soul infused sound. Kopp doesn’t just ride the roads – she paves her own. Here is what Emily Kopp had to say about the release of Making Sense Of:
“I’m very proud of Making Sense Of. All four songs are a culmination of some really unique and creative co-writing sessions that took place in Nashville, TN as well as over Skype. For me, the EP is representative of a time when I began successfully touring full time, and cultivating a tightness and sound with my band. I stand behind the writing, how the recordings came together sonically, and feel proud about how we present them in a live setting. I’m really excited about Making Sense Of being the next collection of songs I get to present to people.“ – Emily Kopp
No stranger to tenacity and determination, 2015 proved to be a year of discovery and new experiences for the young troubadour including: shows + festival spots alongside Phillip Phillips, Ben Rector, Copeland, and Larkin Poe, four successful headline tours, music placements in commercials for national brands, and an esteemed invitation to present at the TEDxGreenville Conference back in April. However, the pathway towards Making Sense Of started a year prior. In 2014, what began as a Nashville co-write with acclaimed drummer Evan Hutchings, continued through the following months via Skype write sessions, and ultimately led to the formation of the four songs that make up Making Sense Of. Hutchings went on to not only produce the record, but play drums and percussion. The rest of the musical lineup was stacked as well, with contributions by Jon Murray (bass) and Scotty Murray (guitar). Combined these three Nashville musicians have played with everyone from Katie Herzig, Anderson East, and Erin McCarley.
Making Sense Of is a combination of honest storytelling lyrics, married to a seamless blend of groove oriented soul, pop smarts, rock edge, and enough sass to make you shudder. This November, Kopp is releasing her first single from the new batch, titled “Chasing Streetlights“, followed by the full EP release in December. In January 2016, Kopp is embarking on a world backpacking trip with her girlfriend. The chef + musician duo plan to explore all things culinary, music, art, and adventure, beginning in Auckland, NZ. The goal: simplify, learn, discover, utilize their crafts, and feed the creative soul, and “make sense of“ it all.
Making Sense Of will be available for purchase on 12/4/15. For a sneak peek at the album, fans can head to YouTube to scope Emily Kopp’s live studio performance of her leading single “Chasing Streetlights.”
