Uncover the Magic is just that – an ethereal tale spread out over five stunning tracks by folk artist Luke Redfield. Opening with a smattering of elegant, yet timid tones, the EP leads into a rollicking tale of love, loss, and rebirth, all accompanied by Redfield’s well-worn and steady voice. “Resurrection Day” launched recently on GroundSounds, who called it a “powerful song…[with] a ‘rustic’ feel to it, which compliments Redfield’s unique vocals perfectly.” Uncover the Magic will be released on October 23rd, and coincide with an EP release show at Icehouse in Minneapolis, MN.
Luke Redfield is a bit of a nomad. He has criss-crossed America for most of his life, and has in turn inspired four LPs in his career. Shaped by his travels and stories, Redfield’s music has been called “ragged-but-right” by the A.V. Club and “soulful folk” by Paste Magazine. Redfield’s fourth LP, The Cartographer (listen on Bandcamp), was released in January and has been met with excellent press. “As the title suggests, (the album) chronicles some of his widespread travels but also includes many nods to home, with echoes of homeboys Dylan and Mason Jennings” (Vita.mn). He has shared the stage with Gregory Alan Isakov, Marissa Nadler, Madi Diaz, Cory Chisel and many others. His studio recordings feature members of Andrew Bird, Peter Wolf Crier, and Bon Iver.
Born in Duluth, Minnesota (like Bob Dylan before him), Luke Redfield has taken up homes in Texas, Colorado, Alaska, and as an intrepid drifter on the West Coast, where he washed dishes and sang for his supper. His life on the road has been called “A modern twist on the troubadour traditions of Woody Guthrie and Jack Kerouac” (Minneapolis Star Tribune). With lyrics steeped in transcendental reverie on one hand and working class expression on the other, Redfield’s songwriting has been called “well-crafted to reward close listening” (No, The Moon Ain’t Romantic). Passionately perusing the grounds of the American Heartland and the heart of what it means to live fully, Redfield’s songs demand truth and awe, realizing that both can exist in an effusive, reverent place. Redfield shoots the moon, and often ends up reaching multiple stars, proving that a ‘folk artist’ can be anything.
