The gritty Texas trio, PURPLE, whose music encompasses reggae, funk, pop, rock and hip hop seamlessly are back to detonate their sophomore album, Bodacious, on April 1, 2016 viaPlay It Again Sam / [PIAS].
Bodacious proudly retains the venomous, strident tone established on their debut release, (409), and takes a dive into high-adrenaline fueled pop rock with tracks “Pretty Mouth”and “Bliss”.
The Beaumont-based band that NPR‘s “All Songs Considered” promised to “follow to the end of the Earth”teamed up with Nerdist to premiere the tongue in cheek new video for “Mini Van”: http://nerdist.com/premiere-purples-mini-van-is-the-grungy-grease-revival-we-didnt-realize-we-needed/
Nerdist called it, “an amalgamation of theBeastie Boys’ aggressive but happy-go-lucky raps, the lo-fi and relatable everyman aesthetic of Mac DeMarco, and the garage rock chops of The White Stripes.”
Bodacious starts off like a gun shot with the volatile“Backbone”, leaping between the abrasive shouts of the refrain, and the funky, fluid pop melody of the verse. The album’s first single “Bliss” slides the record into an atmospheric resonance that builds into riotous hammering. Towards the conclusion of Bodacious, Purple bust out their fuzz-rock chops on “Geniva” to deliver a grimy catchy melody over fat, distorted guitars, setting the album up for its high-octane finish.
Purple are a sardonic pack of outsider school kids who went on to be the coolest kids in their home town. The ambitious trio have ridden their unapologetic, grit-spitting style to win the praise from NPR, Entertainment Weekly, Flavorwire, Bitch and Boxx Magazine. A ruthless mix of femme-punk, indie rock and grunge, Purple flash glimpses of Bikini Kill, No Doubt, and Andrew W.K. in their ferocious sound as they vow to leave no stage undestroyed during their frenzied trek towards world domination.
