In anticipation for their new album coming this spring (release date TBA) Denver art-rock/electro-pop group Pan Astral are premiering their new single, “Gulf of Mexico” exclusively with The Prelude Press.
The bittersweet track, carried by stunning vocal harmonies, bright guitar work and upbeat drumming is also quite heavy lyrically, and carries a strong meaning for the band.
“This song is about finding home somewhere outside of the physical world, particularly after a loss… A whole life can be easily spent in shallow waters, and I have to continually remind myself to be intentional about going back home, back out into the deeper waters. The upcoming album, due out this Spring, runs along these lines with a bittersweet optimism.” – Gabriel Otto, (vocals, guitars, keys)
“Gulf of Mexico” comes from Pan Astral’s upcoming LP, due Spring 2016. Stay updated with the band on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/PanAstralmusic
An indie/art-rock/electro-pop group from Denver, Pan Astral produces a melody-rich, original sound that combines hints of new wave and dream-pop with red-blooded indie rock. Pan Astral layers harmony, hooks and ambience over a thick bed of heavy dance grooves, constantly creating new material while evolving the old. Soaring melodies, dreamlike lyrics, and breakbeats underlain with lush, ambient soundscapes define the band’s cathartic sound. Pan Astral incorporates unorthodox light shows, projection mapping, and live art into their explosive live performances, which the band’s fast-growing following have called transcendent.
Pan Astral has shared the stage with Walk The Moon, Lotus, Flobots, El Ten Eleven, Pacific Air, American Royalty, Jamestown Revival, Sorne, Motive, and more. The band has also collaborated live and in the studio with members of Lotus, Signal Path, and Ravi Shankar disciple Paul Livingstone.
Gabriel Otto and longtime musical collaborator Ryan Burnett (Signal Path) formed Pan Astral in a small basement room in 2010. They later added three members and started writing and rehearsing their unique style of music in an upstairs loft in Denver’s RiNo arts district, releasing two full albums and an EP to date. With a new approach to writing influenced by the process of creating a collage, they collectively layer, add and subtract from the canvas, spontaneously inspiring each other.
The band’s high-energy live performances feature projection mapping onto handmade stage sets, highlighting their affection for visual and performance art. With a penchant for collaborating with galleries and DIY venues, their shows have evolved into refined, immersive experiences. Pan Astral is: Gabriel Otto (vocals, bass, guitar, keyboards), Tad Lusk (guitar, backing vocals), Michael Smith (drums, backing vocals), and Kyle Zender (bass, guitar, keys).
