Mutemath Release New Video For “Monument”

    By Dom VigilJanuary 19, 2016

GRAMMY-nominated, alternative rock band MUTEMATH are proud to release the music video for “Monument”, the lead single off of their latest album, VITALS. Watch the heartwarming video below.

“It became apparent to us that we had a theme going for “Spotlight”, “Typical” and “Blood Pressure” of doing these – still camera, no cuts, band hijinx, special effects crazy videos.  We definitely wanted to do something different, and we knew the theme of the song, the lyric, was asking for something different”, says drummer Darren King when speaking of the idea for the video behind “Monument”.

The official video centers around the true story of Charles “LaLa” Evans – a charismatic and humble man from Starkville, Mississippi.  In 1951, LaLa married his high school sweet heart Louise in a wedding ceremony on his father’s front yard.  Following the civil rights movement, he became the first African American postman in the community of Needmore, continuing his father’s legacy of giving back.

After nearly 60 years of marriage, Louise passed in 2011 and LaLa turned their home into a museum dedicated to the life and memories they shared.  He has since regularly hosted guests, inviting in locals and giving tours through the endless photos, music and memorabilia he’s put on display for Louise.

“When you meet him you realize he has an infinite love for life, for his wife and for music.  I feel very lucky we get to capture his spirit in film, and set it to our song.”, says lead singer Paul Meany.

After seeing the video and learning LaLa’s story, Ellen DeGeneres invited both the band and LaLa to appear on the show. Tune in on Monday, January 25th to catch a performance by MUTEMATH and an interview with LaLa (check local listings for air time)!

MUTEMATH is on tour this spring in support of Vitals throughout the US.  Tickets are on sale NOW. Full tour routing can be found below.

Stay tuned for more exciting announcements in the coming weeks!
