The acid-drenched, psychedelic rock trio, DESERT MOUNTAIN TRIBE (or DMT), announced the release of their debut album, Either That Or The Moon, on March 11, 2016 via Metropolis Records (Membran in the UK).
Establishing themselves in the current psych-rock scene in 2014 with the release of their debut DMT EP, the London based trio have subsequently proven themselves a formidable live presence after sharing stages with the likes of Toy, Wovenhand, The Wytches, and Damo Suzuki. They’ve also performed at several festivals including Eindhoven Psych Lab ’15 and Lisbon Psych Fest ’15.
The DMT 12″ EP generated positive coverage from many media pundits, while lead track “Take A Ride” attracted airplay on BBC 6 Music (including a ‘Recommends’ slot). Recorded direct-to-tape at Shaken Oak Studios (Oxon, England) and mastered by Brett Orrison of The Black Angels, the scope of its four songs clearly demonstrated that this is a band to watch
DMT recorded the gauzy, textural Either That Or The Moon during the second half of 2015, working with producer Nick Mailing who helped develop a record that is both expansive and explosive in its musical breadth, layering fuzzed-out undercurrents and rhythms to create a volatile and animated wall of sound.
Either That Or The Moon establishes a lead blanket of music that, over the course of the album, will make you subconsciously crank the volume until you’re blasting it at full force. It opens with kaleidoscopic, “Feel The Light” establishing the atmosphere for the next ten tracks. “Enos in Space” invokes the bands late 60’s influence with a charged anthem for people who doesn’t miss their ex. Jonty Balls, the band’s frontman, explains the track with a chuckle, “Enos in Space is dedicated to Enos, an ex-girlfriend of ours… Bitch was crazy.” The closer, “Leave It Behind” highlights DMT’s primal rhythms, prefacing the track’s turbulent buildup to the albums conclusion.
