Colorado metal band, As Above, So Below have released their debut single, “Bitter Blues.” The track also serves as the first taste of music from the band’s upcoming EP, release date TBA. “Bitter Blues” holds a heavy meaning for vocalist Ian Taylor, who had this to say about the track:
“‘Bitter Blues’ is about how suicide affects us all in various ways. The ‘Bitter’ side of it is the haunting, aggressive nature of the ones left behind. It’s that anger that pushes the person to it and those same people toss around self-centered phrases like, ‘how could they be so selfish,’ ‘why did they do this to their family,’ and ‘why the hell didn’t they just talk to me?’.
‘It’s cause you handed me the goddamn noose…’
The ‘Blues’ is the depressive nature of the lasting pain inside and outside of the person. The loss of all hope, future, and love. Being trapped in open water unable to breathe or hear or feel anything at all.
‘I’ll never be the person you need…’
If you know someone suffering, give them hope instead of pushing them closer to choosing a rope. If this makes you uncomfortable or angry, just imagine how bad it feels inside for the person who made the choice to end their life.” -Ian Taylor
