UK singer Jade Bird has partnered with Vevo DSCVR to release two live performance videos for “Love Has All Been Done Before” and “What Am I Here For” as part of Vevo’s 2019 Artists To Watch series. Both stunning videos can be seen now below.
It could be hushed and introspective. It could be frantic and explosive. Stylistic breadth is one great thing about Jade Bird’s music. The UK singer with the EP entitled ‘Something American’ has a strong grip on a variety of approaches, and the pay-off is substantial. The poise of “What Am I Here For,” the attack of “Cathedral” – each gives you a great view into the songbook of a young woman who spent her childhood in South Wales and her teenage years in London, playing coffeehouses, blues clubs and any other spot that would lend her a stage.
Even though she was armed with an Oasis chord book, the first proper song she learned was Mazzy Star’s “Into Dust.” And even though her mom and dad blasted Chemical Bros, The Prodigy and Aphex Twin, she wound up loving iconic Mississippi bluesman Son House. Maybe you’ve heard “Lottery” and “Furious.” If so, they’ve probably made a dent. Bird’s music is instantly memorable. She knocked us for a loop when she burned through the powerhouse “Uh Huh” at her Vevo DSCVR session earlier this year. Now her DSCVR Artists To Watch work on “What Am I Here For” and “Love Has All Been Done Before” reminds us how masterfully she’s able to move from ease to aggression. Do. Not. Miss.
