LA-based indie/alt band Isla June have released their new single “Knew You When,” available to stream & purchase now on Spotify, Apple Music, and iTunes. The track is the follow up to the band’s 2018 single “Willows,” and will be followed by more new music in the coming months.
Isla June is the project of LA-based singer/songwriter/guitarist Jenna Maranga. It captures the essence of old and new, fusing a deep appreciation of a bygone era of rock, jazz, and soul with close-to-home, melody-driven songwriting. Isla June is a band that yearns, pleads, and wears its emotion on its sleeves, with songs that feel like a notion one has in a dream. Soft. Fuzzy at the edges. Yet clear and memorable. The band recently saw their single “Strange Times, Dark Days” placed on CW’s Riverdale, were featured in Free People stores around the U.S. in 2018, and landed in Spotify’s Fresh Finds: Six Strings playlist with their single “Runway.”
“I wrote ‘Knew You When’ just before quitting my full time day job in advertising,” explains Maranga. “After spending the last four years sitting in an office all day, I was itching to leave and create more space to pursue music. For nearly a decade I had watched (admittedly with some envy) those around me – friends and old classmates from my days at NYU’s Clive Davis Institute – choose music over everything else. I kept thinking back to the last time I really put music first, when I truly fell in love with writing and performing. It was with my best friends in high school in the first band I was ever in. ‘Knew You When’ is that bittersweet nostalgia for a time I missed dearly, for a version of myself I missed dearly.”
