LA Indie-Pop duo Mating Ritual have announced their new album Hot Content, which will be released on May 10th via the band’s own label Smooth Jaws. Today, the pair unveiled a new single “Falling Back” with an accompanying music video. Watch the video now below.
Ryan Marshall Lawhon said, “Named after an instagram joke turned meta, Hot Content looks and sounds like our most playful album yet, but like all “Hot Content”, at its heart is a sad person. While several songs deal with the current climate of the world, fear of change and toxic masculinity, Hot Content is mostly a relationship record. Being in a committed relationship is hard. Finding that balance between excitement and boredom, passion and anger can be difficult, but the fact that you’ve found someone you love, and they love you back, is special and worth waking up everyday for.”
Hot Content is the third of five albums total that the band, composed of brothers Ryan Marshall Lawhon and Taylor Lawhon, is releasing over a five year period. The band’s first two albums, How You Gonna Stop It? (2017) and Light Myself on Fire (2018) garnered over 25 million streams and widespread praise and support from the likes of Stereogum, Consequence of Sound, Billboard, KCRW, The Current, Zane Lowe + more. The first single from the album, “October Lover” was released in the Fall and was featured across Spotify on New Music Friday, Indie Pop and many more playlists.
