Los Angeles rock band, Piuma has partnered with Guess’ RESOURCED program to shoot and release the live video for “Ripples on the Water” today. Watch the video, which was recorded using only one camera in one take by cinematographer, Casey Curry, now below.
Of the video and partnership with Guess, Piuma’s David Small said, “I wrote Ripples on the Water after feeling overwhelmed and jaded with negative news headlines. Sometimes it feels like the small steps we take to protect the planet, like recycling, are nulled out by problems such as largescale industrial pollution. But deep down I know that when looking at the collective efforts we make together, ripples build into waves—making a bigger impact than we might be able to see—or might be reported on in the news. So I wrote a song about that feeling and concept.
After seeing my article on Building an Eco-Friendly Recording Studio, the clothing company GUESS reached out since they are working on a program to help people recycle old clothes—in an effort to boost circular fashion. They asked if my band, Piuma (py-ooma) would perform a song, and if I would give an interview about how I used recycled denim insulation, in the eco-friendly recording studio I built. Of course I said yes—and I was stoked to see how their RESOURCED video goes into the details about how recycled clothing can have a new life, as it did in our studio, instead of just decaying in a landfill.
When I was thinking of the song to play, I knew that Ripples on the Water connected with the cause, since the little actions that we take (like simply bringing in a bunch of old clothes vs. throwing them in the trash)—can generate a massive amount of recycled material—when stepping back and looking at the collective action of everyone taking part.”
Piuma is known for releasing one of the most environmentally friendly vinyl records ever made, along with an article detailing the behind-the-scenes process. The self-titled EP, is in select record shops around the world—including VNYL at the Kimpton – Goodland Hotel, as well as Vinylmnky. Live film of the recording of Piuma’s album Born, were premiered by Relix Magazine as well as Songwriting Magazine. Piuma is currently producing their second full length LP.
