Los Angeles based (by way of Jackson, Wyoming) indie-pop band WYO have shared their bright new single “On Your Own”. Led by a steady drumbeat and singer Andy Sorge’s pop-tinged vocals, “On Your Own” is an upbeat, motivational track about self-discovery and finding your home. When listening to the track, it instantly brings to mind the journey of heading from a small town into a large city, overwhelmed by the change until realizing this is where you belong.
The song marks the second single from the band’s upcoming sophomore album Changes, which will be released on May 31st. You can stream the song on YouTube or Spotify now.
On the track, singer Andy Sorge said, “On Your Own” is about leaving your hometown to see what else is out there. Often times we find ourselves wanting more out of life, and don’t want to look back saying, “I never tried that.” The song is about those first steps in turning a new chapter in life, and ultimately discovering that home is where the heart is.”
Changes is a ten-track musical journey that follows the story of a couple who are trying to stick together while a force in their lives keeps pulling them apart. Split between uptempo, melody driven tracks like “Drive” and “Don’t Stop”, and drawn out, lush ballads such as “All I Know” and “Dead Weight”, WYO were able to create a sound that carries just as well live as on record. Collaborating with producer Brad Wood (Smashing Pumpkins, Pete Yorn), who also worked on the band’s debut albumUntamed, allowed the band to push their songwriting abilities to a new level. This shows in the lead single “Moonlight”, which also saw them achieve new artistic levels, shot under the stars at 3 Spear Ranch in Dubois, WY and transporting the viewer into a cinematic escape filled with gorgeous landscapes and an enthralling love story.
