Lauren Ruth Ward brings her enchanting folk stylings and 70s psych chops to life in a dreamlike video for “Hungry Barber”. Described by the video’s director of photography and editor, Aaron Eisenberg, “Lauren explained to me that this would be an interlude on her next record, a brief sonic palette cleanser between songs. I figured we should take the same approach to the video, forego any traditional structure or narrative, and instead create a vibey little world you could exist in for a minute and a half.”
Lauren also recently teamed up with retropop powerhouse Desi Valentineand Jack Daniels to record “Same Soul”, inspired by a recent trip to Tennessee. Here the song and see behind-the-scenes clips of the collaboration via Fader, here.
The powerhouse performer and vocalist is embarking on her west coast headline tour, along with a special hometown show at the Los Angeles Museum of Natural History on May 3rd. Dates are listed below.
Since the beginning of the year, Lauren has deviated from the traditional album format and is keeping her creative spark aflame with the release of a new song or video every five weeks. First with the fierce “Valhalla” and then the introspective slow burner “Pullstring”. She also previously went into the studio with renowned hitmaker/songwriter writer Billy Steinberg and Australian legend Mark McEntee — the founder/guitarist of the Divinyls. The trio had a blast together and recorded a beautiful rendition of Divinyls’ “I Touch Myself”.
Lauren Ruth Ward’s music has spread like wildfire these past two years in LA after leaving her hometown of Baltimore. Her lyrics are secrets to strangers, writing about her life’s trajectory sharing both vulnerability and strength delivered with grit and vibrato. Her band re-creates 60’s rock and roll nuances, allowing Ward to release a powerhouse of raw, visceral emotion in their live show.
