R&B-fused Singer/Songwriter IYVES strips down to her vocals and a guitar with the release of “Gold (Acoustic),” out everywhere now. This acoustic release follows her 2019 return to music after a year-long hiatus with “Gold.”
“Gold (Acoustic)” pays homage to IYVES’ powerful and commanding vocals, while still keeping its original soul-flavored inspiration. The song begins with skepticism in her voice and in the lyrics, but progresses to an understanding of how rare and special this circumstance of love is. IYVES was “caught up in the silver” but now is feeling gold.
When asked why IYVES wanted to release an acoustic version, she explained: “I think hearing the song more stripped down lends itself to hearing it in a new light. The mood, lyrics, melodies can take on a new meaning, or be received in a different way than the full production. “Gold” is a song that is about a very personal experience so putting out a more vulnerable, bare track made a lot of sense for this song in particular.”
IYVES and her 2018 debut EP Chromatic, released last year, received high praise for her sleek R&B sensibilities from key tastemakers in the blogosphere, such as NYLON, Pigeons & Planes, Stereogum, and Billboard. She brings a layer of depth to the genre, one that is found in her powerful vocals and picturesque lyricism, yet she manages to stay true to her classic soul musical influences.
She hopes that like the ivy plant that is able to grow in harsh, dim-lit environments, her music can withstand all elements and transcend above the norm. IYVES has more music in store for the rest of the year that you are not going to want to miss.
