Kayla Marque has released her first music video from her upcoming dual album, Brain Chemistry (Left Brain / Right Brain) in an emotionally-raw noir-style portrait. The video is for Marque’s single “Fold in Half” — an engrossing vocal-driven emotional exploration. Representing the complexities of grief and depression, the video portrays Marque in public — cool, collected and colorless — but in private she’s battling herself internally, falling apart.
Marque and her team — including producer Glenn Sawyer, editor Zoid Haem and director Anna Lee — collaborated on using the idea of adding colors to represent emotions. In the end, “Fold in Half” is an artistic take on the fragility and complexity of one’s ego and persevering through hard times, which we can all relate to.
Only proving her perseverance more, Marque battled food poisoning over the entire course of the shoot. Still, that didn’t stop the fashion-driven musician from styling the video and pulling it all off with great success. Check out the video for yourself below.
