Foy Vance has shared an incredible acoustic performance video of “Malibu Jane”, a track from his forthcoming album To Memphis, which will be released on September 6, 2019 on Ed Sheeran’s Gingerbread Man Records/Elektra. The acoustic video, which Relix Magazine premiered earlier today, was filmed at Sun Studios in Memphis. Pre-order To Memphis to receive the album version of “Malibu Jane” as well as the tracks “Only The Artist”, “The Strong Hand”, “I Won’t Let You Fall”, and “Wind Blows Chloe”.
“‘Malibu Jane’ is a song that pretty much just categorizes the qualities of a very dear friend that I would quite happily hop on a plane for,” shares Vance, who wrote the song for his close friend, actress Courteney Cox.
Produced by Vance with Matt Ross-Spang (Jason Isbell, Margo Price, John Prine), To Memphis is the companion album to From Muscle Shoals, which was released in June. The two very special albums pay homage to the deeply rooted Americana and Soul traditions that have influenced Vance’s approach to songwriting. The catalyst for the project was Vance’s discovery of old demos he had labelled ‘Soul’ and ‘Americana’ whilst he was searching for inspiration for the follow-up to 2016’s ‘The Wild Swan’.
Vance will follow the release of To Memphis, with a special performance at Americanafest 2019 in Nashville, TN on September 13. In October, he will embark on an extensive headline North American and UK/Ireland tour. Tickets are on sale now from foyvance.com.
Vance was also recently a featured vocalist on EDM superstar ILLENIUM’s latest single “Blood”. The track, which is taken from ILLENIUM’s forthcoming album Ascend, is available to stream and download now via Astralwerks HERE.
Vance will release a new studio album in 2020, a more traditional follow-up to The Wild Swan, which contained the BBC Radio 2 playlisted singles “Coco”, “Upbeat Feelgood”, and “Noam Chomsky Is A Soft Revolution”, and saw Vance perform on NBC’s Today and CBS’s The Late Late Show with James Corden. Vance’s previous album, Joy Of Nothing, won the inaugural Northern Ireland Music Prize for best album in 2013.
