Australian indie-pop artist Phebe Starr has unveiled “Ice Tea Liberace”, the title track off her highly-anticipated Ice Tea Liberace EP, out this Friday on PALACE. Premiered via LADYGUNN, Starr indulges in mystery and hedonism over a booming chorus and heavy, pulsating beats that grow stronger and louder with every verse.
On the meaning behind the song/EP title Starr speaks coyly, “let’s refer to the dictionary and what it says, shall we? ICE TEA: a chilled drink of sweetened tea, typically flavored with lemon. Liberace: (1919 – 1987) was an American pianist, singer and actor who embraced a lifestyle of flamboyant excess both on and off stage.”
Phebe Starr is a rare artist who captures the human experience and translates it into resonating beauty. Ice Tea Liberace EP features four rebellious indie-pop songs about losing innocence and coming to terms with growing up. Often compared to Lykke Li and Marina & the Diamonds with a mystic edge of Kate Bush and Florence and the Machine, Starr’s place in the music world is undeniable. Throughout her career, Starr has garnered immediate radio support at Triple J (over 7 million streams to date), and her deft blend of new and old made her past EPs Chronicles (2017) and Zero (2015) stand out amongst her peers. Also earning “one-to-watch” nods from the likes of Glamour, Nylon, Harper’s Bazaar, and Vogue, Starr is one pop artist the world should be looking out for.
