London four piece King Nun have announced their debut full length Mass, out October 4th via Dirty Hit. From the album comes the band’s latest single, “Black Tree“, which can be heard now below.
Dressed up in cultish imagery, complex lyricism and a mutating, tradition-be-damned approach to rock music’s typical sonic palette, King Nun’s long-awaited debut album, Mass (PRESS HERE to pre-order), is a coming-of-age record like few others. A record centered around both personal exorcisms and more universally lived experiences, King Nun’s debut is a lofty accomplishment from a group no longer content to simply kick up the dirt at their feet. “The album is really autobiographical,” front man Theo Polyzoides shares. “It’s full of songs about becoming, songs about reminiscing, songs about making an album. It’s a tribute to teenage angst, to naivety, to memories both melancholic and despairingly sad – to the need to step up to the plate.”
The album announcement comes in the wake of a huge summer for King Nun, including a recent support slot for Foo Fighters with a crowd of more than 60,000 and a set at Bonnaroo where Rolling Stone named them “Best Rock Newcomers,” stating that “the band’s sense of fun and youthful transgression was contagious, with the charismatic Polyzoides frequently going airborne and guitarist James Upton, bassist Nathan Gane and drummer Caius Stockley-Young smiling their way through the madcap 30-minute set.” Despite being the band’s first run of dates in North America, King Nun made their mark in the country and will play a short run of North American dates this September. The band will return to the UK this October to tour alongside The Struts. Full tour routing can be found below. Tickets can be found here.
