Swedish-American left-field pop artist Mapei is making her comeback. Over the years her hybrid style – intertwining Hip-Hop, R&B, Pop, and Gospel – has garnered massive support and a dedicated fanbase. She performed on Late Show with David Letterman and received praise from NPR, Pitchfork, Billboard, The Fader, Buzzfeed, Vogue, and more. Mapei is currently gearing up to release a new album and today has unveiled the projects first single “Rise Up” – an inspirational, dance-y soul-pop bop with a punch of Gospel grandiosity.
When asked about the inspiration behind the track, Mapei shared, “Rise Up has been a slogan that my activist father always uses, I grew up going to rallies. I knew I would use the term in my own way one day. The song’s lyrics have layers to them. It can be about giving someone one more chance and not putting up with the most in you life.”
