Dream Phases Share New Single, “Frightened Man”

    By Dom VigilSeptember 3, 2019

Dream Phases have released the first single from their long-awaiting debut full length So Long, Yesterday. “Frightened Man” is layered with fuzz paired with upbeat psych-rock elements, exhibiting all of the classic staples of 70’s era beach-tinged garage rock that made that sound so timeless. The full album will be released on October 18th, 2019 in partnership with Nomad Eel Records and Lunar Ruins. So Long, Yesterday will mark a bold new chapter in the five-piece’s three-year history that has already seen the band’s following grow beyond their native Los Angeles to reach an international audience of fans anxiously awaiting their official debut. In addition to announcing their debut full length, Dream Phases will embark on a European tour spanning from the UK to Italy.

Quote from Brandon Graham of Dream Phases about “Frightened Man”:

“Frightened Man” was one of the first songs I wrote when I started Dream Phases. It was written in the same three days as “Maybe Tomorrow” and “Crossfire”. The song is about not missing out on lives grand adventures and possibilities, and not giving into fear. It’s really easy to give up or settle, especially as you get older, but life is really too short to not go fully for your dreams.

So Long, Yesterday serves as a reflection on growing up in Los Angeles and the band’s exploration of the diverse and expansive west coast. Topically, it ruminates on the end of long-term relationships and the lessons we learn in those situations – mixing thoughtful introspection with a healthy dose of optimism. It’s a solid introduction to the project, rippled with infectious hooks and heavy on retro-psychedelic aesthetics. From the daytripping “Cruel World” to the folksy “Always On My Mind”, Dream Phases draws on a wide array of influences ranging from garage rock to country and noise pop. The twelve songs that So Long, Yesterday is comprised of paint a vivid picture of a band on the rise streaked with ambient soundscapes and meticulous compositions.
