Samm Henshaw has released the video for his track, “The World Is Mine.” Built around a sample of the Nas classic “Made You Look” and produced by Pop & Oak [Rihanna, Alessia Cara, Nicki Minaj], Henshaw flips this hip-hop staple into a slick and simmering soul anthem. Backed by thick percussion and boisterous horns, he vaults from deep Delta blues-style crooning on the verses into a victorious and vibrant chant, “We got the whole world ahead and the whole world behind—nothing in the rear view but wasting time.”
“The World Is Mine” heralds Henshaw’s forthcoming full-length debut, landing in stores and at all digital retailers later this year. It arrives hot on the heels of his buzzing breakout “Church” [feat. EARTHGANG]. The latter clocked 12.8 million-plus streams and counting as he received widespread acclaim. Clash wrote, “In an age where religion has been misaligned and exploited by propagators of the far-right movement, Samm Henshaw is reclaiming the narrative,” and Complex claimed, “Whether you’re religious or not, Samm Henshaw’s new team-up with fun-loving duo EarthGang will surely give you reason to smile.”
With nimble vocal runs, a booming register, steeple-size range, and fiery fresh fusion of gospel, soul, and pop, Henshaw has all the makings of a bold and bright breaking superstar.
Born in London, Henshaw was raised by Nigerian parents, honing his love for Gospel and American soul in a church pastored by his father. With his 2016 breakout debut The Sound Experiment EP and its follow up The Sound Experiment 2, he’s established himself as an inspiring new channeler of soul, coalescing his signature sound around filaments of pop, hip hop, gospel, and R&B. Hand-picked by Chance the Rapper and James Bay to support their live treks, he’s also spent the past 2 years working and touring with the likes of Pharrell, Rag’n’Bone Man, and Maverick Sabre before hitting the U.S. at the beginning of the summer for well-received showcases kicking off his stateside debut. His steady ascent has been chronicled by The Guardian and The Independent, with Henshaw also being cited as “One To Watch” by Spotify, Teen Vogue, Google, GQ, and others.
