On his new single “Reason,” Matthew Chaim is continuing to bend genre constructs with his R&B tinged indie-electronica soundscapes. Out on all streaming platforms today, “Reason” is a heartfelt meditation on love.
“Reason” is about the “healing effects of love,” explains Matthew Chaim. “While there is a very outgoing side to me, I often get into pretty introspective and solitary modes. I enjoy my alone time, but sometimes it leads to getting lost in my own head. When that happens and I start to head down some dark rabbit hole, it is often my little vices (like weed, TV, porn, Instagram) that I so easily turn to for relief. Vices do calm those voices and accompanying emotions down, but only for a short amount of time. What I’ve learnt, however, is that it is true connection and relating to others that can actually help us heal those spaces within us that we so often distract ourselves from. It is the love in our lives that gives us the strength to heal. Ergo, love heals. Amen.” Emotionally-piercing in all the right ways, “Reason” marks Matthew’s second single this Summer, following up on the powerful ode to loss, “Sunflowers.”
Originally hailing from Montreal and now settled in Los Angeles, Matthew’s innovative sound is quickly captivating audiences. In 2016, he broke out with his debut single “Vanilla Ways,” an electronic-laced R&B track that found a home on the Spotify Viral Charts. He followed it up with a soulful EP, Homemade, which saw praise from the likes of Complex, Sidewalk Hustle and Variance Magazine. As he moves into his next releases, Matthew is ready to wear his heart on his sleeve, distinguishing himself as a raw, confessional, musically imaginative act to keep an eye on.
