Self-taught singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist known as BAD CHILD has unveiled the cinematic music video for “Pretty Girls”, the latest single from his debut EP Sign Up which was released in August through 21 Entertainment and Universal Music Canada alongside Capitol Records stateside and Virgin Records in the UK.
The video for “Pretty Girls” flashes back and forth between the dark and light of relationship and reflects the juxtaposition of the airy melody of the track with the sad reality of the lyrics. On the video BAD CHILD describes, “‘Pretty girls’ was so directly inspired by Jean Luc Godard & the French new wave. The jump cuts and the freedom of filmmaking of the time really inspired the team so much to try and create something that breathed real life. I really wanted to delve into the fleeting feelings of love and despair.”
BAD CHILD is an artist looking to come to terms with his childhood his upbringing. After losing his mother at a young age and dealing with heartbreak, he sought refuge from the world in music. Since then he’s been breaking new ground with his genre bending and distinguished sound palette which he presents in his debut EP. Sign Up was mixed by Spike Stent (Frank Ocean, Muse, Beyoncé, Coldplay) and was created as a project that combines influences and styles to reflect and comment on not just his own life, but also the experiences of his generation. BAD CHILD is quickly becoming one of Canada’s most exciting exports; profiled in Wonderland Magazine, Complex, HillyDilly, Sidewalk Hustle, Atwood Magazine and the Toronto Star. BAD CHILD’s current radio single “Breathing Fire” peaked top five at alternative radio in Canada and he has been nominated for 2019 SOCAN Songwriting Prize finalist alongside Dilly Dally, grandson and Kaytranda.
BAD CHILD hit the festival circuit this summer, playing some of the world’s most prestigious line ups including, Lollapalooza, Osheaga, Glastonbury, Great Escape plus Reading and Leeds. He returns to Canada on a string of recently announced Canadian dates with Toronto musician, Posey, joining as support. Stay tuned for more to come.
