Progressive metal collective, Greyhaven, returned today with the first taste of new music since their critically-acclaimed breakout 2018 full-length, Empty Black. The band premiered this latest standalone single “A Match Where Great Fire Should Be” this morning. Speaking on the track, Brent Mills (vocals) says, “This song is about recognizing the need for change and opportunity for growth. I was struggling with where my life was for a while and struggling with my relationships with important people in my life and I realized that I needed to make the right decisions for myself and really make myself happy which I wasn’t doing for a long time. I think I used other people as excuses for my behavior instead of really taking ownership of it.That’s a huge thing I’ve learned this year and this song is mostly a reaction to all of that.”
The band’s latest full-length Empty Black, produced by Will Putney and released last year via Graphic Nature / Equal Vision Records, gathered high praise from all spectrums of the heavy music world including the likes of Revolver, BBC Radio One, Metal Injection, Kerrang, and Alternative Press. Empty Black is an explosive collection of heavy rock anthems that incorporate a myriad of influences. The album possesses an impactful, driving energy that is infectious – complete with underlying ethereal tones that set the stage for the band’s abrasive compositions. Empty Black undoubtedly positions Greyhaven as torchbearers in the resurgence of progressive metal. The band returned to Will Putney, who produced their label debut, this summer to record this newest single.
