Rexx Life Raj has been building anticipation for his forthcoming album, Father Figure 3: Somewhere Out There, and has just released his latest single “Your Way,” featuring Bay Area songstress Kehlani. The song got its exclusive Zane Lowe World First premiere on Beats 1 on Apple Music yesterday and can be heard now below.
“Your Way” is the latest release off Father Figure 3: Somewhere Out There, the third project in Raj’s “Father Figure” album series. This third instillation sees the likes of Kenny Beats, Bas, Jay Prince, Sango and more, who contribute their unique sounds and styles to Raj’s project.
This latest offering, “Your Way,” shows a slightly softer side of Raj, with his angelic voice crooning perfectly alongside Kehlani’s rich, silky vocals. The release follows closely on the heels of “Moonwalk,” Raj’s collaboration with Kenny Beats, which received instant critical acclaim, like all of Raj’s releases.
On November 11, Raj will kick off his national headline run in Boston, and wind through the U.S. for the remainder of the month. Prior to his recent Rolling Loud appearance, KQED wrote: “Berkeley’s Rexx Life Raj is a streetwise wordsmith with the voice of a gospel singer and the political awareness of a Black Panther.” This observation steps from the unique upbringing that has shaped this genre-bending artist’s story. Raised by a god-fearing mother and a Black Panther father in the mecca of progressive politics, Raj’s music perfectly articulates the beauty and struggle of being a young, African-American adult in 2019.
Raj’s unique style has seen him garner high praise from legends such as E-40, Scott Storch and Pharrell. Raj is also a frequent collaborator with modern superstars like Kehlani, Russ, G-Eazy, Lecrae, Mozzy and more. His releases have been featured prominently on the front page of Apple Music, in Spotify’s most popular hip hop playlists, and virtually all DSPs, all thanks to his ever-expanding fan base.
