Rising pop-R&B singer-songwriter and vocal powerhouse Jennifer Denali has released her anthemic new single “Try” along with a beautifully moving music video to accompany the powerful opus. “Try” (Dense Records) is about a spiritual journey to self-acceptance – one that includes accepting all mistakes and past judgements and in the end learning that you must put yourself first. The message of the song and its chorus, which questions “who would I be now if I got it right on the first try?,” stems from Denali’s own road to self-love. Watch the video now below.
“‘Try’ is a retrospective,” Jennifer shares. “It’s about finding the strength to accept everything that led to who you are, good and bad. For my own journey in loving myself, I came to realize that good or bad doesn’t matter, it makes you who you are and that’s what matters.”
Of the self-penned song, she adds, “I wrote this song because it was what I was going through at the time. I was reflecting on the things that make me who I am and that it’s all okay. In a way, I was feeling defeated about not being where I thought I should be in life. Once I reworked the idea of loving myself, I realized I’m right where I’m supposed to be.”
Singer-songwriter and model Jennifer Denali was born gifted with powerfully soulful pipes, a strong work ethic, and an innate stylish flair. However, doubt, depression, and lack of confidence obscured her way in music. Jennifer’s singular pop artistry traverses R&B, soul, and rock, and has been favorably compared to Madonna, Amy Winehouse, and Mariah Carey. Her songs are both intimate and broadly resonate-she draws inspiration from her personal quest for self-love and couches these empowering lessons in invigorating R&B pop tracks. Themes of love lost, wisdom gleaned, and her ongoing evolution as an artist and as a woman abound. Ultimately, hers is a soundtrack for spiritual uplift rife with indelible pop hooks, smoldering vocals, and undeniable grooves.
As a young teen, the native New Yorker was signed to a development deal with music biz powerhouse Mike Mason (Mariah Carey, Tevin Campbell), who helped Jennifer hone her songwriting chops and explore the life of a professional musician. However, her promising start in music was cut short when she found herself in a toxic cycle of self-medicating from depression. It’s a been a profound restart for Jennifer, and she now can embrace her gifts through having the confidence and self-love to step back into the pop arena. Jennifer’s new music has a narrative flow from black hole emptiness to breaking through into the light. As she shares, “The message of my story is love yourself completely-be proud and unapologetic about loving yourself, commit to yourself, and trust in good energy and positive vibes. It’s okay to be okay.”
